Necessary amendment: MG (both over the trip that this blog pertains to and the one that followed) is 95% of the reason that visiting CICRA has been such an incredible experience. Not only did she make sure that I had everything I could possibly need in this crazy place but she took me with her wherever I wanted to go, answered every one of my ig'nant biology questions with great and interesting details, and made me feel extremely welcome (obviously, I went back). In addition to this I came to realize what a bad ass she is: everyday she walks the forest alone with a machete and big rubber boots collecting plants and battling ants (she sometimes does a dance). One day I came across a big brown snake in the path and MG immediately whisked me behind her, whipped out a machete, and began coralling the snake away from us. Amazon woman extraordinaire to whom I owe my life.
